NovAutomobile Industry Bailout
As I’ve said before I’m not very well versed on this whole economy thing here. For any of you that know me, however, you know that won’t stop me from having an opinion about it. Besides I’ve been bitchin’ enough about bigotry lately anyway. In general I was in support of the $700 Billion Dollar Bailout for the Financial district of the country. Not that I thought it was a great thing but more that the alternative seemed much much worse. Well the government agreed and they decided to throw some money to the bailout. No idea how long it will take for this to kick in, or for the positives to happen, but it is done. So now, the vultures will begin to come out of the woodwork.
Enter: The Automobile Industry. Seeing as how we’re the only industrialized nation still not on the Kyoto Treaty, and the standards our cars are made for… well I’m not too patriotic on this one. I own a Japanese car, and I am okay with that. Japanese cars are more efficient, better machines. And they care about emissions. So, with the financial crisis at play the economy is attempting to fix itself. Things are starting to regulate themselves. So the big car companies are starting to feel the burn. They’ve been running their companies inefficiently and need to seriously tighten their belts. They are in bed with the Oil Companies and haven’t brought truly forward energy efficient thinking onto the Horizon.
So let them burn. That’s what I say.
Let these companies embroiled in their bad business practices and big money politics go under. And let smaller, more innovative companies emerge. Free enterprise is about looking forward, competition, and capitalism. I think that if companies do not want to take advantage of Bankruptcy to restructure their companies and try to bounce back, then there’s nothing else the government should do.
It’s hard, to have that opinion though because millions of people’s jobs are at stake. I don’t wish unemployment on anyone, and it’s a terrible side effect. Ideally I just wish that these good old boy companies would start cutting back and more underdogs would rise to the top. Hey, maybe we can resurrect the electric car.
Everyone needs cars. I don’t think people are going to cut cars out of their lives completely. What everyone doesn’t need, however, is a new car every year. Or a flashy super duper luxury car. Unless it’s a DeLorean then everyone needs that. These companies are just mass producing more cars than they can sell and they’ve been pumping them out like hot-cakes. And it needs to stop. The structure of their business needs to be re-examined and progress needs to be made.
I really hope that’s the direction this is going to go in. I mean seriously if we bail out the Automobile industry, who’s next?
